Mediterranean Flotilla ~ Montenegro

hosted by Whitecaps Sailing
  • 8 Days & 7 Nights
  • Aug 19 - 26, 2023

Montenegro has not yet been overrun by American tourists, but it is a shame that so few people are aware of the existence of this small country which boasts a lot of fascinating attractions, like the Bay of Kotor, the largest fjord-like bay in the Mediterranean. Visit the medieval cities of Kotor, Herceg Novi, Budva, and Bar. Be amazed by the largest superyacht port of Porto Montenegro. Discover the stunning island of St. Mary of the Rocks near Perast. You will go home with unforgettable memories. We guarantee it.

  • Airport: Tivat (TIV) or Podgorica (TGD). You can also land in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and hire a local limo company to bring you to Porto Montenegro in Tivat.
  • Departure: Porto Montenegro
  • Type of yachts: Monohulls and multihulls from 46′ to 54′
  • Not included: airline tickets, airport transportation, hotels before and after flotilla, dinner on shore
  • The following costs are shared: provisions for breakfast and lunch, fuel, and docking fees.
Flotilla Leaders

Capt. Jean and “Admiral” Mila have been organizing sailing flotillas with American Sailing since 2009 and have introduced many sailors and non-sailors to fascinating destinations in the Mediterranean and Seychelles. They know the sailing waters and show participants places that many tourists do not know. They put a very heavy emphasis on safety while ensuring that all participants go home with fun and unforgettable vacation memories.

Jean, a native of Belgium, lives with Mila, his Peruvian-born wife, in Florida. He holds a USCG 100T Master’s license and is qualified to teach ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 114, and 118. Together they run Whitecaps Sailing, an ASA sailing school in Punta Gorda, Florida.

Itinerary
SATURDAY

After a lazy morning, “Admiral” Mila will lead the provisioning party and raid the local market and grocery stores. Montenegrin cuisine is a mixture of Slavic Balkan and Mediterranean food. After our check-in of the yachts and chart orientations, we should be able to drop the lines and leave Porto Montenegro marina around 17:00 and sail to the city of Kotor. Dinner in one of the many restaurants of this walled city or at our favorite, The Galeon.

SUNDAY

After breakfast, we sail to the Perast Islands in the Bay of Kotor.

Enjoy the short sail to these two magnificent islands and visit the stunning church of St. Mary of the Rocks.

Our final destination of the day is Lazur Marina, near the old city of Herceg Novi.

Opportunity to visit Hecerg Novi and its castle.

MONDAY

We head southwest from Zellenika, sailing into the Adriatic through the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, which separates Croatia from Montenegro.

Our first stop will be the Blue Cave, which you can enter from one side and exit from the other. Next destination is the Luštica Bay Marina where we will spend the night at the dock and enjoy a great meal in one of the local restaurants

Tuesday

Budva is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Montenegro and only 12NM away.

Let’s go across to St. Nicolas island with its 16th century church. Have a drink at one of the local bars and go for a swim in its crystal clear waters.

We explore Old Budva in the evening, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Wednesday

Montenegro is still a great unknown to American tourists but there are so many exciting places to discover. One of them is the city of Bar, only 15NM away.

We will spend the night at the local marina and, only 4Km away, visit Old Bar with its medieval walls, old churches, medieval Turkish baths and mosques.

Dinner near the marina.

Thursday

On our way back to the base, we will swing by Petrovac No Moru with its tiny church perched high on top of the rocks of the small Sveta Nedelja island. If conditions allow, we will anchor there for a swim, lunch on board and a visit to the island.

Depending on the wind direction, we will either anchor out for the night in the small bay of Dobra Luka or in the anchorage of Uvala Zanjica. We will raft up and have a potluck dinner onboard.

Friday

That’s all Folks! We must return to Porto Montenegro but – the Gods of the Winds willing – we will have the opportunity to do some good sailing.

On our way, we can visit some abandoned Cold War military installations.

Then, it is the final leg to the base. You can stay on board for the night and disembark by 09:00 on Saturday or go to a hotel for a real shower and a real bed.

Testimonials
I have had the pleasure of sailing with Med Sailing Adventures twice in Croatia and in Greece! Both times have been an incredible experience. Both Mila and Jean have the unique skill of bringing people of all ages and experience level together to create an amazing experience no matter where you are in the world. They encouraged me to learn to sail and even get certified to make this a life long sport. There’s nothing quite like it and I feel very safe and secure with Med Sailing Adventures trips knowing I will have the time of my life. Thank you Jean and Mila!

We just finished a week sailing with Jean and Mila! They were absolutely wonderful and took us to some amazing places in Croatia and Montenegro! I highly recommend sailing with them. We had some great laughs and created some incredible lifelong memories. Bravo Jean and Mila…

We went with Jean and Mila to Croatia on our first “Flotilla” several years ago. It was a superbly orchestrated event. The sailing was outstanding and the ports were spectacular. The trip gave some independence but was “group” enough for the novice Cruiser too! Jean was great “tour guide’ for the trip. We returned with Jean and Mila to Mallorca with the whole family, this trip too was outstanding! The culture, the food, The sailing!
Kevin S. – Oklahoma City, OK
After listening to Jean’s presentation about sailing in Croatia at Strictly Sail Chicago, I was sold! My instincts did not fail me. The trip to Croatia was so fantastic that we signed up for the flotilla in Spain a few years later. With their vast experience and knowledge of Mediterranean sailing, Jean and Mila lead groups of both novice and skilled sailors to explore beautiful islands and enjoy the culture and gastronomy that each destination offers. We are looking forward to many more trips with Med Sailing Adventures!
