The Athens Sailing Academy is located in Athens, Greece. Our summer location is the beautiful Greek Island of Poros. We are the oldest ASA sailing school in Europe and have taught numerous students over the years how to sail safely and proficiently. The constant sunshine and easy winds make this an ideal location to learn how to sail.
Our instructors are all English speakers and have an intimate knowledge of the islands that you will sail around while sailing with the Athens Sailing Academy.
The school runs courses from basic ASA101+ASA103 though to Off-shore ASA106 instruction. Our most popular course is our Yacht Crew certification, a week’s course where you learn to sail and learn about yacht systems. The Bare-boat skipper’s license course, ASA104+105 is our next most popular course.
Both courses are run over a week and include all teaching materials, you own cabin on the teaching yacht, a qualified instructor who will give you individual instruction throughout the week. The courses are geared for classroom instruction in the morning and afternoon, sailing around Poros and the surrounding bays and islands.
The courses are very comprehensive, covering skills such as navigation, mechanical and electrical knowledge, sail trim and boat handling, which will include anchoring and how to Med Moor to the dock. You will live on the yacht for the week. You will have your own private cabin. In the evening, you can go out and enjoy the many restaurants on the Island. Food and fuel is not included in the school rate.

Laurel Seaborn is our head female instructor at the Athens School. She began her sailing career in the Pacific Northwest, sailing with her parents. She continued her sailing when she went to College, learning to race and teaching basic sailing skills to her fellow students.
Seeking out further adventures, she crewed on historic tall ships (including some movie stars you might recognise: Interceptor from “Pirates of the Caribbean” aka Lady Washington, and Surprise from “Master & Commander” aka “HMS” Rose).
Her basic teaching principles focus on encouraging action, building confidence, and ensuring lots of practice. Most importantly, there’s no yelling. When women are starting out sailing, one Captain Bligh instructor can shut down all desire to continue with the sport. I believe women-only classes can ensure a safe space to learn and a great way to make life-long friends as we explore the islands of Greece! She looks forward to seeing you here in Greece where she can introduce you to the wonder of the Greek islands.
In the Aegean Sea, there is no island too large or too small for you to conquer. Some islands are cosmopolitan and luxurious and some islands are pure and pristine with untouched beaches of timeless beauty. Some islands are arid and parched and islands with lush green trees and exotic beaches.
From the islands of the Dodecanese and Cyclades, on to the Sporades and the North Aegean and Crete … yachts, catamarans and boats of all kinds are ready to set sail. You can find yourself in a different landscape and on an island with a completely different vibe in the blink of an eye.
Syros and Naxos are the epicentre of Greek island-hopping in the Aegean. From Syros, you can easily reach Tinos, Mykonos, Kos, Leros, Patmos, Rhodes, Santorini and Anafi. Or start on Naxos and travel to Paros, Santorini, Amorgos, Astypalea, Ios, Folegandros and the so-called Small Cyclades islands.
And don’t forget the cluster of islands near Pelion called the Sporades (Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos… and a little further south, Skyros), adorned with world-famous beaches, both secluded and organised with water sports and other activities for you to enjoy. Or the North Aegean islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria.
