Spring Mile Builder to Chios, Greece

A Learn-To-Sail-Vacation

hosted by Athens Sailing Academy
  • May 2nd - 9th, 2026
  • 8 Days | 7 Nights
  • 104 / 105 / 106 / 114 / IPC

Overview

Cruises are designed to fast-track your progress — helping you gain valuable miles, hands-on experience, and confidence in handling larger yachts. Sail under the sun, explore the Greek Islands, and log miles toward your next certification — all in one unforgettable experience.

Learn, Sail & Log Miles

During a typical leisure charter, you might cover short distances and spend most of your time relaxing at anchor.
Our mile-building programs take a different approach — combining adventure and instruction to help you qualify for ASA or RYA certifications through real sailing challenges.

You’ll experience:

  • Non-stop passages of 60+ nautical miles
  • Night sailing and watch-keeping rotations
  • Cooking and living at sea
  • Navigation and passage planning in open waters

Each trip focuses on teamwork, endurance, and seamanship — the key elements of advanced sailing proficiency.

Our Spring Mile Builder is May 2-9 • Aegean Expedition to Chios. Our planned route will take us from Poros Island toward Chios Island, near the Turkish coast. Along the way, we may visit enchanting islands such as Kea, Psara, Chios, and Tinos. As with all mile-builders, the final itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions and training objectives. See the article on our Fall milebuilder here

Hands-On Experience as an Active Crew Member

There’s no fixed syllabus — you’ll be a working part of the crew, participating in every aspect of the voyage.
If you already hold an ASA or RYA Skipper’s Certificate, you’ll have the opportunity to take command of the yacht under instructor supervision, refining your leadership and decision-making skills at sea. This is real-world sailing — dynamic, immersive, and rewarding.

CERTIFICATIONS

This learn-to-sail vacation is ideal for ASA students logging qualifying miles, sailors preparing for ASA 104, 105/106 or RYA Coastal/Offshore Skipper, and anyone ready to gain experience beyond coastal day sails. Testimonials

I can’t thank you enough for the ADVENTURE we undertook last week. It’s hard to even put into perspective for me as this was well outside the range of any experience in my life. I learned so much, not just about sailing but about Greece, about myself, and about what is possible in this amazing world. I was able to see some things that I had waited nearly my entire life to see, but was so surprised with the many things you showed me that I never knew existed. And I understand now that I only saw a very tiny fraction of what is out there. This was not a sailing class. It was a rebirth.

Just completed ASA 105 and 106 with Athens Sailing Academy, and it was an awesome experience. The courses and sailing are out of Poros, an easy ferry ride from Athens. It is a quaint and wonderful island with friendly locals and a great yacht vide. The school helped arrange transportation and lodging, which made travel very easy. Navigation was taught by Johnathan, a former Royal Navy Navigation officer. He knows his material and has the skill and patience to be a fantastic teacher to any skill level. He even began to teach me how to use a sextant! Advanced Sailing was taught by Laurel, a US Coast Guard Captain and longtime ASA instructor. She advanced my knowledge of sail trim 10-fold, and has the patience of a saint. Class was difficult but rewarding, and both instructors insisted on us having fun and enjoying our “vacation.” I give Athens Sailing Academy my highest recommendation and would be grateful to learn from either of these instructors again. If you are considering traveling to Greece to take sailing lessons, Athens Sailing Academy will make it a great trip. A final note about the boats, they are chartered from Greek Sails, but Athens Sailing Academy handles all the arrangements. Greek Sails keeps their fleet in great condition and was wonderful about ensuring we had water, power, etc. The price of the charter is included in the class price.

I recently attended the ASA101+103 training and had a wonderful week in Poros. Laurel is a fantastic instructor. She’s experienced, kind, and quick to address any issues. Thanks also to Jonathan for his attentiveness throughout the process.
