Overview

Join fellow boaters in exploring the highlights of the San Juan Islands during the early summer. This flotilla is timed to beat the crowds and enjoy the long hours of daylight during the summer solstice. The San Juan Islands boast sheltered waters, magnificent marine parks, quaint villages and welcoming marinas. Wildlife abounds on the land and in the sea, with deer, bald eagles, otters, seals, sea lions and orca whales commonplace.

FLOTILLA LEADER

Captain Roger Phillips

Captain Roger Philips has been leading flotillas in these waters annually for over 15 years. ASA Certified Sailing Instructor and USCG licensed captain, he was formerly a BoatUS rescue boat captain based out of the San Juan islands and a whale watching boat skipper on the Oregon coast. He sailed and lived aboard his own Jeanneau 37 sloop in the Salish Sea for five seasons, from Seattle to Desolation Sound. He currently teaches ASA sailing courses for the Newport Beach Sailing School.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Departing from Bellingham you’ll spend the week visiting some of our favorite destinations the San Juan Islands. Likely stops include:

Echo Bay (Sucia Island)
Sucia is considered the “jewel” of the San Juan Islands, and Echo Bay offers beautiful views of Mount Baker, beaches to explore and excellent trail access.

Friday Harbor (San Juan Island)
Vibrant island town that offers a grocery store, wide selection of restaurants and shops/galleries.

Roche Harbor (San Juan Island)

Historic resort with restaurant and spa. Visit nearby San Juan Island Distillery, take a walk to the unusual mausoleaum or explore outdoor works of art at the sculpture garden.

Spencer Spit (Lopez Island)
A state park, relaxed Spencer Spit offers beach combing and hiking trails, as well as bike and kayak rentals.

Rosario Harbor (Orcas Island)

Tucked in to Eastsound on Orcas Island, Rosario Harbor offers fuel/pump out, a dockside cafe and access to the hiking trails of Moran State Park. Pool access is available through adjacent Rosario Village.

Inati Bay (Lummi Island)

Located just 7 nm from Bellingham, this cozy anchorage provides the perfect location to raft as a group (if desired), socialize and enjoy a leisurely trip in on Friday morning.

Enjoy daily history, weather, and route briefings, camaraderie, an ASA-hosted reception, flotilla activities and a flotilla shirt for each crewmember. ASA membership not required for participation.
