FLOTILLA LEADERS

Mila  & John

Capt. Jean and “Admiral” Mila have been organizing sailing flotillas with the American Sailing Association since 2009, guiding both sailors and non-sailors to unique destinations in the Mediterranean and beyond, including the Seychelles, Brazil, and the Bahamas. They prioritize safety while ensuring all participants have fun and unforgettable experiences. Jean, a native of Belgium, holds a USCG 100T Master License and teaches various sailing courses, while Mila, originally from Peru, is also a licensed USCG Captain and excels as the flotilla’s master organizer. Together, they run Whitecaps Sailing, an American Sailing certified school in Southwest Florida.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1
DUBROVNIK

We meet at the ACI Dubrovnik Marina in Komolac around lunchtime. The marina has excellent shower facilities, restaurants, and a nice pool. After lunch, under the guidance of “Admiral” Mila, we will do our provisioning. If everything runs smoothly, we anticipate a departure around 17:00. We sail down the Rijeka Dubrovaca River, under the bridge, and into the protected inside passage on the north side of the Elaphiti Islands. We will spend the night on the hook in the bay of Zaton. Dinner on board or on shore.

Day 2
STON

Early departure to the city of Ston, about 18NM away, where you will be able to walk the longest defensive wall in Europe. You can hike from Ston to Mali Ston and enjoy the panoramic views of the historic salt flats that made the Ragusa Republic, as Dubrovnik was then called, very wealthy. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3
BAY OF POLACE, MLJET

We have a 24NM trip ahead of us to the Bay of Polace on the island of Mljet. This is a nature park, where we can Med moor at a local restaurant for a typical Dalmatian Peka dinner. Before dinner, you can hike to a lake where a medieval Benedictine abbey is located on a small island.

Day 4
KORČULA

We can take our time to leave as we will only have a short distance to sail – about 14NM – to the city of Korčula, the home of Marco Polo. Although a small city, Korčula is chockful of history. The cathedral is worth visiting, and you have a great choice of restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine. Check out the ingenious way they have designed their streets to take advantage of the cooling breezes in the summer and protect themselves from the cold ones during the winter. We will dock for the night at the local ACI Marina and replenish our water tanks. Dinner in one of the many great restaurants in town.

Day 5
LOVISCE BAY, ŠĆEDRO ISLAND

We have a 24NM journey to Lovisce Bay on Šćedro Island, a small nature park near Hvar. Lovisce Bay is scenic and well-protected, where we’ll spend the night on mooring balls. There are a few konobas (small restaurants) nearby, and you can choose to dine aboard or go ashore for a meal. The next day, we’ll set sail for Hvar, heading to the ACI Marina of Palmižana on St. Klement Island. From there, we’ll take a water taxi to the city of Hvar, where you’ll have the evening to explore its Venetian architecture, the Spanjola Fortress, and a variety of excellent restaurants. After dinner, we’ll return by water taxi to the marina to rest for the next day.

Day 6
STARI GRAD, HVAR

We have to start making our way to our final destination, but still have two full days to go. Let’s head for the adorable little port of Stari Grad on the north side of the island of Hvar. The name means Old City, and it is indeed one of the oldest ones in Europe, located all the way back at the end of a long fjord-like bay. Wander along the quaint waterfront and the narrow medieval streets or rent a scooter or car and go discover the Stari Grad Plain. Dinner at one of the many restaurants in town.

Day 7
TROGIR

This is our last day on the water, and we must make our way to Trogir to return our yachts. We will leave the bay of Stari Grad and sail towards the island of Brač. On the way out of the bay, we catch a glimpse of the hidden fortifications built by Tito during the Cold War. It is indeed only a glimpse, as the hill is completely tunneled with hidden bunkers. Soon we sail through the channel that separates the islands of Šolta and Brač, and we turn towards the port of Rogač, where we will refuel for our final stretch to Marina Baotić, near Trogir. We check out from our yachts but can spend the last night on board. By 09:30 on Saturday we must have disembarked.
